Filips Jewellery Sensitive-Skin Guide (By Material)

316L Stainless Steel (surgical grade)
- Hypoallergenic and nickel-free.
- Very low risk of irritation; highly sweat/water resistant.
- Good everyday choice for sensitive or reactive skin.

18k Gold Plated 316L Stainless Steel
- Same hypoallergenic 316L base with a surface of 18k gold.
- Low irritation risk. If plating thins after long wear, the 316L underneath remains skin-friendly.

S925 Sterling Silver
- Nickel-free and generally well tolerated.
- May oxidise over time (can darken skin slightly where moisture/lotion is trapped). This is not an allergy—a quick clean removes it.
- Good choice for sensitive skin; keep the area dry/clean under rings.

18k Gold Plated S925 Sterling Silver
- Hypoallergenic S925 base with 18k gold surface.
- Low irritation risk. If plating softens over time, the S925 base is still skin-friendly.

18k Gold Vermeil (thick 18k gold over S925)
- Thick gold layer over a hypoallergenic S925 base.
- Very low irritation risk; a safe pick for sensitive skin that prefers a gold finish.

14k Gold (solid)
- Nickel-free, hypoallergenic.
- Very low irritation risk; suitable for long-term wear.

14k White Gold (solid)
- Our 14k white-gold alloy is nickel-free and hypoallergenic.
- If you’ve reacted to white gold elsewhere, it’s often due to nickel in other brands’ alloys—ours does not use nickel.

Common concerns (quick answers)

- “Green/black marks on skin?” Usually oxidation (e.g., from silver) or trapped moisture—not an allergy. Clean/dry the area and the piece.
- “I’m extremely reactive.” Safest bets are 316L stainless steel, 18k gold vermeil, solid 14k gold, or S925.
- “I react to white metals.” Try S925, vermeil, or 14k yellow/rose gold. Our 14k white gold is nickel-free, but if you’re unsure, we’ll advise case-by-case.

Care to minimise irritation (any material)

- Remove before swimming, showering, workouts, or applying lotion/perfume/sanitiser.
- Keep skin dry and clean under rings; wipe jewellery after wear.
- Store pieces in a soft pouch to reduce oxidation and residue buildup.

Note: This is general guidance and not medical advice. If you have a known metal allergy or a history of dermatitis, please consult a clinician. We’re happy to help you pick the gentlest option for your skin—simply tell us what you’ve reacted to before.
